My friend Dave - who lives in Idaho - dancing with a happy, young lady

The song is on the Volume 5 album and can be heard on YouTube

The Idaho Waltz

Without thinking, almost every song we (me, anyway) have in our head has 4/4 timing. I wanted to try something else and I learned what anybody around music learns when they are 3 years old. A waltz uses 3/4 timing. Ok, let’s try that: 1 2 3, 1 2 3, 1 2 3, etc. At the same time, I had been pondering how to define love and I came up with what is probably the obvious for most people. Love is not a feeling. It is actions. Give a listen while we dance. I call it this only because I lived in Idaho then. Why not!

The Idaho Waltz

E          E7

A         A            E                C#m
Now I want to dance with you
F#m                Bm           D            E    E7
And tell you what you mean to me
You are my Queen of Everything
And I would like the World to see
Here are some ways for you to know
I love you, I love you. Today and tomorrow

A         A7

   F            F            G       G7
I cherish you; admire you
       C         C        Am     Am
I enjoy you, I like you
       F             F              G          G
I believe in you and honour you
  B              B7              E                E7
I Respect you and I Care for you

So take a turn on the dance floor
Wrapped in each other’s arms
While we dance the World is gone
I’m lost in your candied charms

You make me smile even in your sleep
You make me calm when you breathe
You can make me laugh until I weep
You are free to go but please never leave

Around and round, we go
Lost in a World all  our own
Why, oh why should we ever wish
For anything less than the best we’ve ever known

I am going to dance all day
Here on this floor and everywhere
Dance my entire life away
Loving you the best I can. Every night, every day

I accept you, I forgive you
I trust you, I believe you
I marvel at you. I cheer for you
I do for you and I cry for you

If I would not do, my dear
Everything I’ve said above
I wouldn’t know what we have
But, I know it wouldn’t be love
