When you have to drive there and hope for the best…

When you have to drive there and hope for the best…

This good song is on the Volume 5 album

I Wanted Sunshine

I like the music of this one, especially with the pounding bass line. Then, I needed lyrics so I decided to write about one of the great displeasures in life… that being waking up to a rainy day when you really wanted a sunny day. What could be worse? This is important stuff.

I Wanted Sunshine

B                                                        Em
Through squinted eye I scan the sky
        A                        A6                   Bsus
The black of night gave way to light
       D                         G
The day had come awake again
            F#                               Bx2
I could roll out of bed, but then...

There’s a smell of dampness in the air
There’s the sound of dripping water... somewhere
It blurs the view through my windowpane
I wanted sunshine but I got rain

D                                      G
I wanted sunshine but I got rain
G                     G6       A
Cold and wet to the bone again
      F#                D
If I venture out unprepared
     Em                        B
I’ll feel the pain like those who dared

Maybe if I stay in bed for now
The Sun will start to shine, somehow
Maybe if I pray and say
“Please bring me sunshine, sometime today?”

The sky is just getting darker
Prospects for sunshine just get starker
I was hoping things would get better
But all they did was just get wetter

I guess I should stop my complainin’
Not be grumpy just because it’s rainin’
It’s ok, everything’s just fine
A little rain makes me love sunshine

I wanted sunshine but I got rain
See... the grass is turning green again
So, I won’t be an unprepared old fella
I will go get my big umbrella
