Simpler Times

This is probably what Dave looked like and that’s probably Kevin back there.
I have no photo of Heaven. There were no cameras back then. Too bad. She was HOT!

You can find this tale on the “Who IS this guy?” Album

and you can listen to it/stream it/own it by the means described a hundred times here.

One day while I was figuring out what is wrong with the World, I thought… we have information about cavemen from back in the day but, there are NO personal stories. Every individual’s activities are not ever noted - until now…

Simpler Times

This guy, Dave… he was a Caveman
F#m      B          E          E
That’s why he lived in a cave, man
A          C#m      F#m      E
The cave was much too big for him alone
F#m  D  B          E          E
So, generous Dave shared his home

Dave had a friend, Kevin
Who had an awesome woman, Heaven
Kevin was a bit of a goof, Dave thought
But Heaven… well, she was hot! Really hot!

There were other Cavemen in town
Grunting, always dragging clubs around
They dropped by Dave’s cave a lot
Did I mention, Heaven was hot? Really hot

Round the fire at nine o’clock,
A                      F#m
They’d all watch Heaven talk
D                      E
Invoking dreams of things they’d rather
D          Dm       E          E7
Than roam around to hunt and gather

Dave was rather smitten with Heaven
“Why not me? “, he’d ask. “Why Kevin?”
He decided to grant himself a gift
By shoving hapless Kevin off a cliff

Dave never watched Kevin fall
He didn’t look, he never heard a call
And so that night, Dave was in Heaven
I mean… many times, maybe eleven

Everything was perfect. Heaven was a dream
Dave liked to make her scream
And the guys from town came around
Just To hear the sound

Then Heaven got really fat.
Dave thought, “That’s the end of that”
He thought she was getting lazy
But no, she just made a baby

“I’m a Daddy”, sang Dave to Heaven
“No Dave,” she smiled. “The Daddy’s Kevin”
Kevin didn’t die that day, you see
Luck was his. He had snagged on a tree

So, just for fun to mess with Dave
Kevin stayed away from the cave
But, when Dave went out at seven
Kevin went to Heaven ‘til way past eleven

Time went by. Many, many days
Kevin returned to share the cave
They all forgot, they all forgave
After all, this was Heaven

The men from town kept dropping by
They seemed to love saying “hi!”
Heaven got fat many times.
The clan grew way past nine.

One day, curiosity struck Dave
Why is everyone now live in my cave ?
Most of the kids did not look like Kevin
Not even close. What’s with Heaven?

You may think this story would be remembered
The facts of past are rapidly dismembered
But time eases everything like water on sand
If your woman is heaven, just love her when you can.
