Growing up, we were the nearly inseparable three-amigos. In the middle, my cousin Duncan (Dunc or Smitty) and on the right, my lifelong friend Don.

This song is on the album: What’s the Point?

My Friend

I moved away from where I grew up when I was 42. I returned 30 years later. In those 30 years, I never saw or talked to my lifelong best friend except for two visits - one less than an hour long. When I finally came back to stay, the sense of valuing our friendship was powerful. It was the seed thought for this song. It’s is a toast to him.

There is a riff in this song that develops in semi or crude form early on and by the end of the song has evolved into a strong and fully thing. It closes the song. I think its beautiful and… that all happened by accident. Nice!

Am x 2

1  I don’t know... who you are
2  I don’t mind...

G            Em               C
But I sure like who I think you are
Am                              F          Dm
1  When I see you... my friend
2  When I hear you...
3  When I’m with you...
A#                               G
1 I like when we search for the Rainbow’s end
2 I feel like we’ve found…
3 I know I’ve found…

C                                 Em7
I’ll always hope I’ll never forget
C7                               Fmaj7 Fmmaj7
Every bit of time I spend with you
G              Em             C
But I know sometimes, I will

I’ll always wish for more and yet
Time is a wall I can’t walk through
Time… is a bitter pill

Memories are not ever good enough
A consolation prize for the lazy
But, I will wait until…

I’ll wait until I stand next to you my friend
And revel in you because I’m crazy
And yet, I may never get my fill                 E         E7

Chorus 2

Instrumental Verse + Chorus

Sunshine, mountains and sea
Flowers, puppies and the people over there
All beautiful things, it’s true

History, philosophy and jokes on me
I enjoy all that but none compare
To time spent with you                    E         E7

Chorus 3
