Literally, the day we drove off. All worthwhile possessions packed into this rig.
Didn’t know it then but, we stayed in Canada only 2 1/2 years. Perfection not yet achieved!
Listen to this heartfelt story about separation here. It’s on the “Fathers & Sons” album.
Done with You
This song, the one before it and the one after on this album are very much simply my thoughts on my ‘for two decades’ home: the USA. For 43 years, I lived in Canada and, like many Canadians, I lived within 20 km of the US border everywhere I lived. In all those years, I never liked going to the US. It was uncomfortable. Then, I moved there and lived in the US for 28 years. I thought I wa staying but, life unfolds in unexpected ways. Now, that I have left it behind, a chapter is closed and the US is very different than it once was - worse! I don’t miss it.

You led me to believe that you understand the World very well

So well

That you are wise and tell the truth and the way of others leads to hell

Raging hell
You said you are here for me. You showed me sunshine, water, pristine sand
A Promised Land
You told me strength earns command. Submission is for others, never lose
The upper hand

Self-preservation is the game. Freedom hides another name

Servitude and loyalty aren’t the same. Greed prevails. You’re to blame
I watch you never follow through. The doors are closed with payments due
I’m not you
To be “Your own man” means be “on your own”. What I have is just a loan
And it’s owed to you

You say betrayal is a crime when it’s aimed to you
Am Em
Betrayal of me by you. Well, that’s a crime too

It is time for me to bow out and say goodbye.

There is nothing here for me. I’m done with you.
